TACP™ II (TACAIR™)

The TACP™ II / TacAIR™ Beacon (NSN: 5855-01-460-9151) is a high intensity infrared beacon designed for long distance signaling during Close Air Support (Night CAS) operations. Primarily used as a Drop Zone (DZ), Landing Zone (LZ) and marker, the beacons flat top design maximizes ground-to-air signal while minimizing the ground-to-ground signal.

Powered by either six AA, or three CR123, batteries the TACP II provides flexibility and over 100+ hours of continuous operation. The TACP II / TacAIR beacon can be seen by aircraft at distances up to twenty nautical miles.

The TACP II / TacAIR features sealed electronic components in a weatherproof casing to ensure reliability. Its ruggedized switch can be operated with gloved hands, but is also recessed to prevent inadvertent activation. A built-in light sensor automatically turns off the beacon during the day to save power and maximize run time while a visible low-intensity, miniature indicator light flashes during operation to confirm the beacon is ON for persons without night vision equipment.

The TACP II’s new one piece design ensures no lost components during an operation, while its smaller size allows it to be fit within a double M16 pouch for easy carry. Integrated flip-down attachment points can be used for securing the beacon to objects.
