The LPU-40 is the specified flotation collar used in the US Armys Air Warrior program. It attaches to vests and harnesses using the MOLLE system, and the outer casing is composed of durable fire retardant fabrics. A single, beaded inflation lanyard is pulled once to inflate both CO2 cylinders and receive approximately 65 lbs. of buoyancy. The bladder has a two chamber design to allow buoyancy in the event that there is damage to either side of the bladder. Either chamber can be orally inflated in the event of an emergency. The unique bladder design incorporates arm straps and a cinch strap, which improve the flotation position of the user.
